8 Trends You Need to Know About for the Warmest Season Yet
It might not feel like summer to you, depending on where you are reading this. But it is. Just over five weeks remain until the first day of summer. If these five weeks pass as quickly as they did the previous five, it will be here before we know it. We must not wait any longer to prepare for the upcoming warm weather. You don’t want to be the person who forgets their wardrobe switchover and has to spend their first perfect day of summer inside organizing.
In order to help you start your transition from the spring to the summer season (or, for those of you who live in New York City, the winter to the summer), I spent the last few weeks researching the trends set to dominate the season. I scoured Instagram and shopped online for hours to make sure that my findings were accurate. Discover the eight trends that I found, which are all highly anticipated by fashionistas.

Poplin for the summer? It’s a bit groundbreaking, I know. This cotton fabric is in a great place right now. It’s even competing with linen for the top summer spot, which it has held for decades. Poplin is more than just button down shirts anymore. It’s the material of choice for skirts and dresses.

Over the years, the swimwear trend has been a wide range of styles, from high-waisted shorts to Brazilian bottoms with revealing patterns, to textures and bright colors. The biggest trend this summer is not really a fashion trend. The swimwear industry is returning to classics. Simple one-pieces, balconette bikinis, and black-and white colorways are gaining popularity over louder and more showy competitors.

This recent interest in elegance is attributed to a few things. These include the new FX series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans and Prada’s S/S 24 Satin Shoe Collection. What inspired you to swap your crop tops for double-satin midi skirts, and your cutoffs with tailored longline waistcoats? It doesn’t really matter. We are now in the age of sophistication, and I for one am not going to give up on it.

After Tory Burch’s S/S 24 show, I immediately wrote about the return to capri pants. I had no idea how popular they would be by the time spring/summer rolled around. Today, capris, or more specifically pedal pushers, are everywhere. They’re quickly becoming the trend of the season.

Nothing excites me more than finding out that a controversial fashion trend is about to make a comeback, peeking its head above the surface of the water and assessing whether or not it is ready. When I searched for summer 2024 fashion trends, I discovered that the controversial trend was not just testing the water, but had already established itself on the shore. It’s thongs. The shoe style New Yorkers are most passionate about. Sorry to the haters. The thong sandal trend, which includes classic flip-flops and kitten-heel styles, is here to stay.

It’s no surprise that sheer fabrics will continue to dominate when temperatures soar, especially since the trend was seen on the spring runways. The sheer trend has evolved this season. It’s now more wearable, and it is elevated.

This summer, the bloomer is taking over the hot pants of last year. It’s a less intense version of the pant that fits perfectly with the coquette look that has been making its rounds on TikTok this year. I was a little unsure about bloomers in 2024 but I was convinced when Hailey Bieber wore them on Instagram after announcing that she is pregnant with Justin Bieber and her first child.

You name the brand and I will find runway images of models in butter-yellow looks. Red and burgundy have been the most popular colors for spring and summer. But I predict that margarine will be the color of choice as the temperatures rise.
