10 Affordable Dupes for High-End Makeup
Splurging for beauty always seems like a justifiable act to do. Well, we can’t be blamed when beauty cult-favorites cost a fortune and they sure live up to the entire rave! While these expensive cult favorites are sure worth every single penny, the fact that beauty isn’t always pricey is still very true. There are times that you get the exact same color and formula for a much lesser price point. Some beauty products are expensive because of the top-notch ingredients they use, while others are merely hefty because of the brand name. In this article, let’s only talk about really amazing products – both from drugstore and high-end brands – that perform really well. Whether you choose to save or splurge, one thing’s for sure – you get the same satisfaction.
#1 ELF Studio Makeup Mist ($3) vs. MAC Fix+ ($24)
Setting sprays are very important when it comes to makeup application. If you are a beauty enthusiast and you do love wearing heavy makeup on a regular basis, you would understand the significance of setting sprays (also known as makeup fixers). MAC Fix+ has an astounding reputation when it comes to makeup setting sprays and it’s not an easy one to beat. But hey, drugstore brand ELF (Eyes.Lips.Face) is stealing the show and it’s not just a rave. It only costs $3 which is $21 away from the famous MAC Fix+. Beauty bloggers and beauty editors have been talking about how it does a pretty good job on making your makeup last. It has an average of 4/5 ratings on credible beauty portals which makes it a beauty product worth trying.
#2 Essie Nail Polish in Sole Mate ($8.50) vs. Dior Vernis in Nuit 1947 ($27)
We have to admit, there’s no way to really tell that it’s Dior gracing your fingernails. To be fair though, Dior is not only an amazing fashion brand but also a house name that makes the most decadent beauty products. Their Vernis (nail polish) line is definitely worth collecting but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get the same color anywhere. Essie is a high street brand that makes really beautiful nail polishes. In addition to that, their color collection is vast! We found the exact same deep wine shade that Dior has, which is called Nuit 1947. Essie’s version costs $8.50 only and the shade resemblance is astounding!
#3 L’Oreal True Match Foundation ($10.95) vs. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($59)
Let’s talk about flawless coverage now. We have heard celebrities, makeup artists and huge Youtube gurus rave about Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. In all honesty, not all high-end designer brands produce the best beauty products. On the other hand, Giorgio Armani did not disappoint as its Luminous Silk Foundation is perfect skin in a bottle! But of course, what comes with that perfect skin in a bottle also comes with a hefty price tag. We do agree that its $59 price tag is very much worth it but since not everyone has that much to spare, we also support resorting to dupes. It happens to find itself a really great dupe from L’Oreal. Its True Match series gives a semi-matte, full coverage look that makes your skin look flawless! It lasts for at least 8 hours on oily skin and it also comes in a vast shade selection.
#4 Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder ($3.99) vs. Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder ($22)
Need a great compact powder perfect for touch-ups? Make Up For Ever’s HD Pressed Powder never fails to do its job quite well. It controls oil, sets makeup to perfection and it delivers a silky smooth finish. It keeps the face shine-free and minimizes the possibility of smearing and caking. On the other hand, we also found a dupe that is $18 away from MUFE’s HD Pressed Powder! Essence is a European brand that has a lot of affordable products. One that really stands out is the All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder as it resembles the MUFE HD Pressed Powder. It also does a really good job at controlling oil, although it may take a few more touch-ups compared to Make Up Forever. Other than that, it also makes a very good and amazingly affordable setting powder.
#5 Sleek Blush in Rose Gold ($7) vs. NARS Blush in Orgasm ($30)
The beauty world has been immensely shaken with NARS’ iconic Orgasm blush. Beauty gurus have been raving it left and right and up until today, it’s still one of NARS’ bestselling makeup products. What makes it really stunning is its buttery peachy rose consistency with gorgeous flecks of gold shimmers. Because of all the hype, other makeup brands tried to keep up and made their own versions as well. Sleek UK has the closest version as it not only features the same color but features a really nice formula as well.
#6 Real Techniques Miracle Sponge ($8) vs. Beauty Blender ($20)
The famous Beauty Blender is a hard thing to beat. Being a six-time Beauty Award-winning makeup tool, it’s almost every beauty enthusiast’s magic wand! There’s no doubt that it blends makeup perfectly and seamlessly and its amazing performance comes with a $20 price tag. It may seem like a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a makeup sponge but if we are talking about the Beauty Blender, it’s definitely right for its price. On the other side of the story, Real Techniques is a brand famous for its amazing brush sets and it only took them a short while to come up with their own beauty sponge. It has garnered a lot of good reviews for its performance. It delivers the same flawless finish just like the Beauty Blender too!
#7 Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in Kiss of Life ($6) vs. MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo ($17)
When one thinks of the perfect red lipstick, MAC Ruby Woo is definitely a very common name to come in mind. MAC makes the best lipstick formulas and their true red lipstick, Ruby Woo, has been in everyone’s makeup pouch ever since it launched. If you want the same true red lipstick shade for a lesser price, Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in Kiss of Life is something to try. The phenomenal Urban Decay Naked palette broke makeup history big time. It’s one of the most raved eyeshadow palettes of the century! The rave is not merely all talks, there’s a reason why the palette is so iconic and it’s because quality, formula and shade-wise – it’s a winner. Every pan is versatile and with its neutral hues, you can create millions of looks. If you love the shades but not very willing to spend around $40 bucks for it, then its closest dupe would be from a brand called Makeup Academy. It features 12 neutral shades that look very much like the shades from Naked Palette. Some reviews say the consistency is not as buttery as the UD palette, but it’s still a very good steal for its price.
#10 Maybelline Lumi Touch Concealer ($8) vs. Yves Saint Laurent Touché Éclat ($40)
All of us struggle from dark circles from time to time due to everyday’s exhausting set of activities. Since catching up on sleep or loading our under eyes with eye cream is not enough to treat it overnight, we resort to concealers. One of the best under eye concealers known to mankind is the YSL Touché Éclat. It has a very lightweight yet moisturizing formula while delivering full coverage for the under eyes. A great dupe for it is from drugstore brand Maybelline. It gives the same effect although some reviews say it tends to be a bit sheer and requires another layer. Apart from that, it has great brightening features while also giving the under eyes appropriate coverage.
We do hope that you find our list fun and helpful! This only proves that we don’t always have to go for something out of the budget just to get great quality products. For the same effect and formula, we get the similar amount of satisfaction as well. So then, are you ready to save or splurge?
