8 Red Hair Hues to Consider for Your Next Salon Appointment

Want to make a bold statement with your hair? Red hair is always a great option. While only a few people are born with this shade, we can choose to change it every two weeks if that is what we desire. We’re imagining ourselves with red hair.

Red hair maintenance is not a joke. Sunnie Brook, celebrity hairstylist, explained that red is the color with the largest molecule. It’s therefore the one most likely to fade from your hair. Brook recommends a color refresh once every four to six months to prevent fading. She also suggests using a low pH shampoo and conditioner such as Biolage Color Last to keep red hair looking vibrant. If you want to refresh your hair quickly, you can use color-depositing products, like Garnier’s Nutrisse Colour Revivers. They will save you from having to go to the salon. What’s the best part? It only takes five minutes for them to work.

We’ve gathered 10 of our favorite ideas for red hair colors to inspire you on your next salon visit. We’re tempted by all of them, from fiery red to deep cherry cola.

Guy Tang, a celebrity hairstylist, said Zendaya’s natural dark red shade is perfect. Tang suggested that if you’re looking for a darker red, have your stylist apply a cherry-cola tone or red-enhanced browns at a level 4 to 6. If you’re a brunette, and would like a more subtle version of the look, ask your stylist to mix highlights of dark red.

Nobody does bold red hair quite like Bella Thorne. Lorena Valdes, colorist at Maxine in Chicago, described this as an intense copper red with ribbons to create lowlights, and copper orange for highlights. This multi-dimensional colour is created by the color. To recreate this look, request all-over color after balayage and highlights and lowlights.

This bold color will bring out the intensity. Nikki Lee, celebrity hairstylist, suggests a red-brown shade with copper undertones. Lee says that this color brings out your warm skin tones and looks stunning in the sun.

Although Kendall Jenner’s red is technically copper, Tang says it still falls under the red category. He warned that “this type of color appears more natural indoors and vibrant outside.” He said that if you like it, ask your hairstylist to use a muted natural copper. Tang said to “emphasize the fact that you want it to look as if you were born with this color.”

Sydney Sweeney is a sweet red. Brook said that this shade is more golden-blonde, but in another light it will look like a warm coppery tone.

This lighter version of copper is made up of brighter strawberry blonde ribbons. Valdes suggested that you ask your colorist for an all over bright copper followed by a customized highlight service or balayage.

Greg Gilmore, a celebrity colorist, likes to have light blonde hair that has a softly toned red tone or warm tone with hints of iridescent shimmer. However the roots are deeply saturated. Gilmore said, “She can still be a redhead while also being a less-committed red.” Gilmore said that to achieve this, you should ask for a softly toned end with a red color at the roots, similar to Sienna Miller’s fairy red hair.
