Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Trends that Conquered Fashion Week
2017 is going to be a very exciting year for fashion. As what the runways have already predicted previously on Fashion Week, we are going to see a wide variety of new trends to conquer this year. Some are a bit of fashion rewind, some we have never seen before. Whichever signature designer line these fashion pieces may be, they do share common elements that redefine this year’s rising trends.
From drastic sizes to blinding hues, here are the trends we should all look forward to this 2017.
#1 – Dramatic Color-Blocking
Proenza Schouler, Chloé,Sonia Rykiel
Since this year is all about something striking and experimental, fashion designers have gone adventurously graphic with their mixture of hues and patterns. From having asymmetrical stripes in dramatic colors to diverse patterns in contrasting hues, the common element is all about putting vibrant colors together. We do love these pieces from Proenza Schouler, Chloé and Sonia Rykiel for it truly shows how color-blocking works in perfect synergy with conventional clothing.
#2 – Full-on Florals
Michael Kors Collection, Balenciaga, Chloé
Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. Well, from Miranda Priestly’s words, florals for the spring season isn’t something very new to us. It seems like we have always associated floral blooms to fashion in which why we do incorporate floral pieces to everything we wear for spring. While that’s true, it’s undeniable how the floral madness is here to stay. Designer collections from Michael Kors, Balenciaga and Chloé have taken a whole new direction for florals by going immensely heavy on them – full-on floral madness! We have to say that Balenciaga totally got us for this one. Flowers from head to toe? Sign us up! Read more about florals here: Flaunting Floral Dresses in Kate Bosworth Fashion
#3 – Chic Jumpsuits
Hermès, Isabel Marant, Vanessa Seward
The charm of jumpsuits channel from that hot lady mechanic fashionista holding a wrench on one hand and a beer bottle on the other. Fancy, huh? The whole jumpsuit trend is now a seasonal staple which both designers and celebrities love. It redefines casual fashion into something more uptown and high-end for the fashion-forward ladies. From denim to silk, jumpsuits this year is bound to make a whole new direction in fashion and we are all thrilled for it!
#4 – The Rebirth of Colorful Leggings
Y/Project, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga
Seeing these pieces on the runway gave us an instant throwback to the 70’s and 80’s disco fever. Remember those neon bright leggings that every girl wore in the club? While that’s definitely not making a comeback this year, a more stylish take on colors are embracing leggings this 2017. Apart from featuring a wider variety of colors compared to monochromatic leggings we have seen the past years, they also come in very unlikely (but edgy) fabric materials. Velvet, silk and lace leggings? Better put your black leather leggings at the back of your closet first and be experimental with leggings this year!
#5 – Futuristic Metallic Pieces
Kenzo, Maison Margiela, Chanel
Just like how metallics are conquering the beauty world this year (metallic lipsticks, anyone?), they are also ruling this year’s fashion trends. We know how funny it was to associate the future with metallics, especially if we are talking about how we view the future back in the 90’s, but it’s becoming more real this year. Fashion pieces with touch of metallics this year is more than just silvers. When we say metallic this 2017, it s comprised of iridescent hues blended together to create a mirror-like gleam. Sounds like magic, right?
#6 – Intricate Pleats and Origami Detailing
Marni, Loewe, Jil Sander
Everyone finds an immense amount of satisfaction to proportionately intricate details, and that is what we saw coming this year. Clothes that feature detailed origami patterns pleated to perfection show a unique take on trend elements this year. Marnie, Loewe and Jil Sander wowed everyone with the pieces they showcased on the runway. Now, we just have to wait until we see them on the red carpet.
#7 – Blazing Bright Pinks
Céline, Balenciaga, Valentino
Finally, hot pinks are back! While we see a lot of pink pieces last year, it was a bit rare to come across that striking, bright pink dress that fully stands out. What’s special about this pink trend this year is that they come is lustrous, soft drapes that perfectly adds elegance and definition.
#8 – High Fashion Parkas
Joseph, Versace, Stella McCartney
Sports parkas are no longer limited to the athletic type of girls. It is also for the fashion-forward ladies who transcend into a more diverse and creative lifestyle. This year’s collection of designer sports parkas are definitely jaw-dropping – from extreme volumes to abstract patterns, it’s definitely something to look forward to this year.
#9 – Oversized Shoulders
Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Céline
Remember how women used to fill their coats up with dramatic paddings to make their shoulders look bigger and broader? Well, it’s back this year and it’s not just like making the shoulders look broader. The pieces we saw from Jil Sander, Balenciaga and Céline are more than just enhancing the shoulders but literally giving the entire body a dramatic lift for a more androgynous feel. Last year, we saw fascinating lady suits skimpy enough to hug natural lady curves (Read: The Hottest and Edgiest Suits of 2016), but this year is all about taking it bluntly.
#10 – Printed Sweater Vests
Michael Kors Collection, Gucci, Prada
Alright, so sweater vests are cute in general so there’s nothing to really argue about this trend emerging this year. The 1970’s trend is back with more prints and colors! Whether you choose to have it delicately balanced with your plain pieces or go gaga over heavy dramatic prints – it’s all in vogue!
Whether you choose to invest in these exquisite designer pieces or go for more practical alternatives, you are sure to make it very trendy if you take inspiration from these trends. Be adventurous and daring – experiment with colors and prints! 2017 is all about something new and innovative so there’s no fear in transforming your wardrobe into something you have never tried before!
