Polka dot is a pattern type that consists of large sized circles arranged in different patterns. It is a lot different from the spot print because polka dots are evenly sized and distributed. This type of print was first developed with the purpose of covering the moth holes that are found in wool clothing. Today, polka dots are commonly seen in toys, children’s clothing and baby furniture because of how playful it looks. However, this is used in formal clothing like lingerie, dresses and swimsuits. For the formal clothing, darker shades of polka dots are preferred. This print was a big hit in the United Kingdom during the late 19th century.
