Many people often confuse the use of the terms Spandex and Lycra. Lycra is actually the registered brand name of The Dupont Company for their spandex products. On the other hand, Spandex is a more general term for the fabric used. There are also other companies that offer a product made from the spandex fabric and they market it with their own brand names like ROICA, ESPA, Linel, Eslaspan and much more.
This type of fabric is composed of the poly tetramethylene glycol or in short, PTMEG. Its most notable characteristic is its ability to be stretched and to return to its original size and shape right away. Because of its elasticity and strength, this fabric is resistant to wear and tear. Due to its amazing properties, this fabric has become the fabric of choice for swimwear, activewear, leggings, and hosiery. Instead of just using pure spandex, many manufacturers are used in combination with other types of fabrics.
