Houndstooth, also known as hound’s tooth or dogs tooth, is a textile pattern that has two colors. This pattern is characterized by an abstract four-pointed figures or a repeating pattern of what may seem like broken checks. The patterns usually come in black and white but there are times when other colors are used. This design pattern originated from the traditional woven wool clothes from the Scottish Lowlands. Today, it is now done on a wide array of fabrics and materials. Houndstooth designs that come in black and white or other earth tones are commonly used in sports coats and other casual clothes that are created from tweed materials.
