Society seems to set global standards when it comes to being physically beautiful. In fact, a lot of women try to alter themselves in so many drastic ways just to fit in on how society tells them to be. This is why looking at Mihaela Noroc’s captured photos is truly a breath of fresh air. Mihaela Noroc is a 30-year-old photographer based in Romania who quit her job and ventured into traveling around the globe. All throughout her travels, she has shown the diverse beauty of women as she captures them in her gorgeously taken photos.
#1 Nampan, Myanmar
Mihaela photographed this beautiful woman in Nampan, Myanmar in 2014. It shows how the woman is an example of dignity, strength, generosity and honesty as she goes on with her daily workload of trading vegetables and crops.
#2 Edinburgh, Scotland
Mihaela says in her blog post that Willa’s spectacular outfit truly caught her attention. She was playing bagpipe in the streets of Edinburgh, Scotland. After taking her beautiful photo, she then discovers that Willa was born in the US; but her love for bagpipe opened doors for her to find love in Scotland. She now lives in Scotland and is making a living from playing the instrument she dears the most.

This beautiful young woman is Theo. Theo’s portrait was taken in Thessaloniki, Greece where she is from. According to her website, Mihaela photographed Theo 6 months ago.
Photographed above is Ania, who shares a very inspirational and brave story. Born in Poland without a right leg, Ania was abandoned by her parents in the hospital. Later on, she was adopted by a Belgian family who gave her a happy childhood surrounded by a loving family. Despite her disability, Ania have always wanted to be an athlete. Her family has always been supportive of her dreams and her next goal is to participate in the Paralympic Games.

The beautiful lady in the picture is named Daniela. Mihaela met Daniela in one of the markets in Milan, Italy. Behind this beautiful portrait is a woman who faced immense hardships in her life – she went through three miscarriages and one divorce. Despite all these hardships, she remains hardworking and optimistic with a kind heart.

Elisabeth from Zürich, Switzerland tells us a story about how she pursued her love and passion for ceramic arts. In 1947, she became a model for a ceramic artist which led her to the path of exploring the craft. At 39, she had to stop because she had a terrible accident wherein she had to undergo 19 surgeries. For the 2nd time, she had to stop again when her husband was diagnosed with cancer and she took care of him until his final days. Today Elisabeth’s work is displayed in many public areas of Switzerland.

Meike chose to study medicine not only because she wants to follow family tradition, wherein everyone from her family are doctors. She also wants to be a doctor because she thinks it’s the best way to help people.

Katharina was spotted during the largest festival in Germany – Oktoberfest. Apart from the festival being known for serving all kinds of beers, it is also the time when Bavarian people wear their folk clothing with pride.

This beautiful woman is Magda, from Bucharest, Romania. She experienced a terrible car accident in 2005 which led her to rely on a wheelchair. A few years ago, Magda regularly organizes several events dedicated to people in wheelchairs. She wants to show everyone that despite being in a limited position, people in wheelchairs are talented, capable and beautiful as well.

Mihaela shares that when she visited the beautiful country of Azerbaijan, she discovered that despite equal rights between men and women are granted by laws, there are still couples in the country wherein the husband always decides for his wife. The wife asks his husband for permission, even if she’s only going to take photos of them.

Pictured above is Koleka, a performance poet in South Africa. In her web blog, Mihaela said “In a time when the success is mostly synonym with lots of money or huge popularity, it’s great to see that there are still so many wonderful people around the world that dedicate their life to art, although their path is full of struggles and challenges.” Koleka is one living proof that dedicating yourself to art can mean superior happiness and success too.

This lovely young lady is Johara, from a small Sardinian town in Italy called Ottana. The island of Sardinia features different villages wherein each has its own traditional outfits. In addition, this place will let you hear the Sardinian language, a language which is considered by many scholars the closest to Latin.

Jackie is a First Nations painter and activist from Winnipeg, Canada who started to paint while she was in prison. At a young age, she lost her mother which greatly devastated her. Without any hope or support, she got into trouble and ended up in a women’s jail. While in prison, she found comfort in painting. It gave her strength to start a new path.

Mihaela had the chance to photograph this gorgeous woman, Cornelia, who is a two-time cancer survivor. Cornelia battled breast cancer twice and defeated the disease twice as well. She’s strong and she feels privileged to live every second of her life.

Photographed above is this beautiful lady called Eleni. On normal days, she is just like any other women wearing her modern casual clothes. But once a year, she dresses in this stunning traditional clothing to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“My parents and grandparents used to live here. My sister was actually born in one of these caves.” Photographed is a young Bedouin woman who explains how the city was under rule of many different empires and civilizations. Petra’s last inhabitants were the Bedouins.

Mihaela described Aliisa’s smile as warm and contagious. She is from Lapland, Finland – one of the coldest places in the world! Behind Aliisa’s warm smile is a kind heart as she helps children while working in a kindergarten.
#20 Idomeni Refugee Camp, Greece
Greece is one of the many European countries who take Syrian refugees trying to escape the ongoing war. As Mihaela travels to Greece, she visits the Idomeni Refugee Camp, wherein Syrian refugees are taking shelter. In the refugee camp, she photographs a mother with her two daughters.
As Mihaela photographs these stunning women she randomly meets in the places she visit, she documents their photos in her own web blog named The Atlas of Beauty. The project started almost 3 years ago and as of today, Mihaela had been to over 45 countries in total. The following photos are the snaps of different women of different race, ethnicity and culture. With this, she opens a portal wherein people from all across the globe can take a glimpse on how diversity defines beauty.
