Breakfast Buffet: A Healthy yet a Delicious Meal
Breakfast is said to be the king of all meals, and we got a choice but to agree to it. So, why not go all guns blazing and opt for a breakfast buffet. The buttery toast to start with, and then the juicy bacon with eggs. The bread and cereals really double the appetite with some cottage cheese, jam or peanut butter spread. Followed by some sweet-savory treat of waffles or pancakes with maple syrup and caramelized bananas consist the breakfast buffet. Add on to it a cup of tea, coffee or fresh mixed juice, and you have the best breakfast buffet ever. Considering that breakfast should be taken like a king, a breakfast buffet would always be the best option. A good breakfast helps increase productivity, concentration and memory through the day. Skipping breakfast can lead to fatigue and loss of sleep.
As today’s culture is to work till late night and complement it by sleeping in till noon, most working class people opt to go directly to lunch which, in the course of time, is going to hurt dearly as a lot of diseases are associated with it. The best thing to do would be to change the routine and make sure to have breakfast everyday as breakfast is a precious gift given to us by nature. And when you can have such great breakfast buffets, why would you take the chance of missing it?
A healthy breakfast buffet can help you lose weight. If this does not get you to get up early, I do not know what will. Even though we know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it helps us improve in a lot of fields, it has to be monitored carefully; because there is always a chance to overindulge. So, here is how you can keep a check on how you have your breakfast buffet:
1.Start your breakfast buffet with fruits and fruit juices.
Go for fresh fruit salad or whole fruit because they are a good source of potassium, folate, vitamin C and dietary fibers. Also the fact that they have low-calorie content helps too. A small glass of fresh fruit juice would be another choice, even though they lack the fiber. Also, it should not be taken more than a small glass, or the calorie count will increase easily. Make sure to avoid toppings which are syrupy as they have added sugar.
2. Choose wholemeal, oatmeal food
Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, muesli and cereals which come under whole grains are to be consumed as they provide the essential fibers for the process of digestion to happen smoothly. Anything with added sugar and fat should be skipped as it could easily add on to the calorie count. Savory items for breakfast buffet like muffins, pastries should be taken in small quantities only if it is unavoidable.
3. Replace butter with the low-fat or fat-free cheese
Butter can be replaced by cottage cheese or jams as they contain less of the unwanted calories. It should be used wisely as a little extra can add a lot more to the calorie count. Regular syrups can be substituted by sugar-free syrups.
4. Consume protein
Proteins are another essential component of a good breakfast buffet. Egg whites are the best source for these proteins. Egg white omelets or even a whole egg omelet will do even though the yolk contains a lot of cholesterol. Bacon, cheese, and sausages are preferably replaced with a lot of veggies of lean meat of other kinds. But if you cannot avoid these, it should be consumed in very small quantities.
5. Avoid bad cholesterol
Saturated fats and cholesterol are the major contents of whole milk, cheese and cream. So these should be avoided to help not add a lot of ‘bad’ cholesterol in the system. Replacing these with low fat or no fat cottage cheese, yogurt or skimmed milk will provide the right amount of protein, potassium, calcium and vitamin D. Saturated fats and cholesterol consumption in the daily diet can lead to disaster in a very short time.
The most important thing to keep in mind while having a breakfast buffet would be to keep a check on the proportion you are having. Make sure to choose smaller plates as larger ones can help you overeat. A quarter of the plate should have proteins, another quarter of fibrous food and the other half should consist of fruits and vegetables. Always remember, good health leads to a happy and merry life.
