She is well-known for her rather interesting yet tragic story. Marilyn Monroe or Norma Jean Baker in real life, was born without a silver spoon on her mouth. She lived in several foster homes because her mother had mental issues and was later put in a mental institution. She never had fondest memories with her mother apart from the memory of her being stifled with a pillow by her own mother. At 7 years old, she was sexually assaulted on several occasions, until Grace McKee, her mother’s best friend, became her guardian. Mkee was a fan of Jean Harlow and evenutally became Marilyn’s inspiration to look good even at a young age. She allowed the nine-year-old Marilyn to curl her hair and wear make up. However, the guardianship was cut short because McKee got married, and sent Marilyn back to the foster home.

The homeless young girl was then led to her great aunt, Olive Burnings, where she was again sexually assaulted by her great aunt’s son. It was very difficult for her to overcome her haunting childhood, but later she realized that the only way to get out was to get married. At the age of 16, she escaped her distressing old life by marrying her boyfriend, Jimmy Dougherty, a 21-year-old aircraft worker. Her husband was later sent to the South Pacific, while she worked in a munitions factory in California, where her beauty was discovered by a photographer. From then, she dyed her hair into blonde and began modeling for pin-ups and glamour photo shoots. Though her marriage with Dougherty failed, it became her starting point to focus on her famed career. However, her troubling self always get out of the way, and at one point in her career, she quoted “Dreaming about being an actress, is more exciting than being one”.
