The star-studded line-up of Paris Fashion Week ensures that the street style is always awash with fashion fandom talismans and Items. Loewe guests entered the store with their heels covered in deflated balls while clutching the handles to their new squeeze bags. Valentino’s unofficial uniform was white shirts with black ties. Chanel’s guests arrived wearing double-C logos on their ballet flats and bags. Outside Hermes, there was a crowd of Birkins and Kellys.
Every season I look forward to seeing editors and fashion experts promoting their favorite houses. I am always delighted. I think of luxury brands as fashion Zodiac signs, which can convey personality traits and style in a single word. Paris Fashion Week isn’t just about matching the calendar and wearing designer outfits. I was inspired by the mix of fall 2019 trends and designer items in these outfits. I found a romantic take on the office suit I will wear to work. I also saw a bag style that I will carry through the holiday season. I also found an upscale version of the fall sweater dress. Street style is something that everyone can do.
Six street-style trends from Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2020 that you should shop for this fall.

Not just because Rabanne announced his collaboration with H&M, and then threw an extravagant party with paillettes to celebrate. The street style of Paris Fashion Week was dominated by silver bags with disco influences and chainmail. These bags added a touch of glitz to every outfit, whether it was adding texture to an oversize suit with a tie or amplifying the sequins in separates. These bags will be on my mind when I begin to think about outfits for holiday parties. (Too soon?)
Skirt Suits

Paris Fashion Week loves a suit. The suiting looks that I saved and screenshotted to my digital mood board all featured skirts instead of oversize pants. A blazer gives any look a businessy, no-nonsense edge. However, adding a circle skirt to the bottom of the blazer or a pencil skirt took it in a more romantic direction. The 9 to 5 fashion week edition was completed with low, comfortable heels and a loafer.
Polka Dot Prints

I saw a good mix of patterns and prints throughout Paris Fashion Week. It started with the glitched-out florals outside Loewe’s show and ended with some power-clashing tartans in the last two days. Yes, some of the skirts I saw were Chopova Lowena. The resurgence in black-and-white polka-dot clothing was evident throughout the week. I saw it on Saint Laurent button-downs, Zimmermann dresses, and some stunning but unidentified outerwear. The two-tone spots were used as a neutral, and I’m planning to use them in a variety of looks.
Puddle Jeans

Paris Fashion Week’s unofficial motto was “Go big or leave”. Oversized, wide-leg silhouettes are the rage for pants. But this season, it’s not just about the increased leg circumference. The guests chose jeans with fabric puddled around their ankles, and hems that kissed the sidewalk. Some people paired their low-rise jeans with flats to add extra distressing. The proportions of a pair of jeans can be just as important as the print or embellishment. These jeans showed that bigger denim is always better.
Off-the-Shoulder Sweater Dresses

The guests, from editors to Emily Ratajkowski and everyone in between, unanimously agreed that off-the-shoulder silhouettes were the best for sweater dresses during fall fashion week. The combination of a collarbone-skimming, soft knit, and a neckline that skimmed the collarbone created a chic, comfortable look. This is perfect for long days spent with industry insiders, and being noticed. These looks reminded me to pull my sweater dresses from storage and wear them for fall work events.
Black Knee High Boots

Paris Fashion Week has always been a great place to show off footwear. I found several 2023 shoe grails scrolling through street style from the week. Prada’s pointed flower slingbacks, Alaia’s fishnet ballerinas, and Adidas x Wales Bonner silver sneakers all made the journey from Milan to Paris. The knee-high leather boot, a forgotten hero of the street this fall, inspired me to wear a pair. It is classic, walkable, and will go with any outfit for fall that fits in a carry-on suitcase. Even attendees of Paris Fashion Week can see that the best leather boot designs are at the intersection of beauty and functionality. They’re also the type of shoes that you can wear from now until spring next year without worrying about being too trendy.
