We’ve already predicted the top trends that will affect shopping, editorials and the red carpet next season. But we now have more insight into the impact of the fall/winter runway collections on style in the second part of the year. Net-a-Porter has recently released its annual report which includes the latest fashion trends and their impact on its purchases as a retailer.

Although there are many directional fashion trends that appear on magazine covers and in runway reports, they don’t always translate into what consumers want to buy and what will be available in stores and online. This is why we take a closer view at the trends and pieces which will arrive in-stores and on the shelves. Libby Page, Net-aPorter’s market director, has distilled the trends that the retailer is betting on for the upcoming seasons. She backed this up with data and her instincts as a buyer. Here are five trends for fall 2024 that, according to NetaPorter, will influence fashion in the next season.

Nostalgic Elegance

Fashion month was awash in nostalgia. Many brands were referencing the iconic styles from the 1940s, a crucial era that saw the birth of fashion shows and a boom in the industry. The collections themselves were nostalgic, as shown by the trends. Rick Owens, who showed at his house, and The Row were notable shows.

Designers presented looks that looked like they could have come straight out of The New Look or Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans. The Swans. This trend has been celebrated for months, despite perceptions that it is unattainable. It’s mainly driven by highly coveted items.

Personality pieces

This season, it was all about individuality and personality. Big, bold accessories were front and center. It was a refreshing change from the pared-down aesthetic we saw in spring. The bags and shoes featured a colorful, textured, and large look. Statement hats, gloves, and fashion jewelry also played an important role in the creation of the runway looks.

We have to be able to predict the next It accessory so that our customers can rely on us to curate the best options. Our bestseller lists will be dominated by strong statements. Our big bets are the Balenciaga maxi Bel Air, Bottega Veneta Andiamo smooth bags, Gucci platforms, Alaia colorful ankle-strap shoes, and Chloe thigh-high boots. Accessories this season were also highlighted by the variety of hats. These ranged from pillboxes to buckets and berets. Altuzarra and Jil Sanders were both favorites for this trend.

Burgundy

Every season brings a different color story. Fall Winter 2024 is bringing in moody tones. Deep burgundy is the color of the season, a sophisticated version of vivid red. Sabato de Sarno set the pace with his debut collection for the spring/summer of 2024 at Gucci and continued this development into fall/winter. “The popularity of this color has already translated into sales with an 18% rise for spring/summer 2024 as compared to spring/summer 2023.

British Countryside

Brands gave a nod towards British country life while adding a touch of femininity. Burberry by Daniel Lee showcased quintessential Britishness with traditional checks. Jonathan Anderson took inspiration from Albert York’s abstract landscapes for Loewe to create a rural charm.

“The most-wanted items were duffle coats by Victoria Beckham, preppy and Fair Isle knittings by Gucci and Bally, and shearlings by Gabriela Hearst, Isabel Marant, and Isabel Marant.”
